This naval battle occurred not far from Bergen op Zoom. In the Battle of the Slaak on September 12 and 13, 1631, a Dutch fleet led by Lieutenant-Admiral Filips van Dorp defeated the Spanish fleet commanded by Antonio de Oquendo.
