Visit MABP during TEFAF

The annual Maastricht Antiquarian Book & Print Fair MABP is one of Europe’s leading antiquarian book events, taking place during the opening weekend of TEFAF. More than twenty-five prestigious booksellers will team up to present the most precious, most valuable, most interesting items from their collections -- for you to inspect, to hold in your own hands, and perhaps to buy. The MABP is a must-visit for every amator of books and printing matter. Items on exhibition include rare first editions, incunables, antique maps, but also more recent special editions and other collectibles.

Theme MABP 2018: Cartography

On this year’s MABP special focus is on cartography. ‘What I find fascinating about maps is the way they connect us to the world around us -- and to the past as well, in the case of historical maps,’ MABP board member Wil Boonen says.
This year’s cartography project is a collaboration between the Maastricht University Library, the Maastricht municipal library Centre Céramique, the Regionaal Historisch Centrum Limburg RHCL and the MABP. One of the aims of the project was to get younger people involved in the world of antiquarian books and prints.
As a part of the cartography project, FaSos student Jonathan Stockhorst (Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Maastricht University) has made an inventory of all the atlases in the Maastricht library collections, resulting in an article in the upcoming MABP magazine and an exhibition in the St. Jan’s Church during this year’s MABP.
Of course there is a lot of cartography to be enjoyed during this year’s edition of the MABP. Highlights include the Nova Tabula Dioeceseos Traiectinae and the meticulously and beautifully crafted facsimile edition by Brill Publishers of the 8 volume Blaeu-Van der Hem atlas.
